Unbelievable numbers of fish, in knee deep clear water!

No trip to the wonderful Lord Howe Island should miss the excitement of Neds Beach.

The UNESCO World Heritage Listed Lord Howe Island is in the Pacific Ocean approximately 600 kilometres (370 mi) east of Port Macquarie, a short flight from either Sydney, Brisbane or Port Macquarie.

Neds Beach, on the island’s north east, is most famous for its fish feeding, an island visitor’s ritual.

Scores of fish mainly mullet and silver drummer, are all looking for a feed in water that is only knee deep!

Other fish can include wrasse, spangled emperor, bluefish and garfish.

Turtles and small Galapagos sharks are often present too.

Appropriate fish food can be purchased using an honour box in the beach shed.

Hand feeding these fish is an absolute delight, especially for children.

For those with a mask, snorkel and fins who venture out further will discover another dimension. Beautiful coral gardens teeming with fish and invertebrate life.

A Special Sanctuary Zone, the Neds Beach and Admiralty Islands Sanctuary Zone, has been created to preserve this amazing marine environment.

It is also a get location for an Introductory Scuba Dive conducted by Dive Lord Howe.

Special thanks to the Dive Lord Howe Team.
