INFORMATION
FV Lena was intercepted and captured while poaching Patagonian toothfish 4,000 kilometres (2,500 mi) off the south coast of Western Australia by the Royal Australian Navy in 2002.
After successful lobbying by Bunbury business groups, FV Lena was prepared for divers and scuttled just a few nautical miles off Bunbury in 2003.
Sitting upright on its keel on sand in 17 metres (55’) of water, the wreck is now home to abundant marine life including a resident turtle.
Divers are able fully explore the specially prepared wreck safely by utilising special swim throughs installed prior to her scuttling.
Dive highlights include the wheel house, the engine room with its engines still in place, the bow sitting above the sand and the four-bladed propeller at the stern.
The huge array of fish life includes wobbegong and Port Jackson sharks, bonito, Western Australian dhufish, baldchin groper, Samson fish, and dozens of varieties of small reef fish.
The Lena is the perfect open water wreck dive and an underwater photographer’s delight!
