INFORMATION
On the east side of Moreton Island (Mulgumpin), just a short distance from Brisbane over Moreton Bay, lays one of Australia’s most unique wreck sites.

Tangalooma Wrecks is a cluster of fifteen ships that were scuttled between 1964 and 1984 by the Queensland Government to create a safe anchorage for recreational vessels.

Five ships were sunk in 1964, another five in the seventies and the final five in the early 1980’s.

Not only do these rusty hulks serve their purpose of providing a safe haven for vessels, they are now a home to a fantastic array of marine life.

The wrecks are a substrate for a variety of corals and also a haven for over 100 species of fish.

Divers enjoying the clear water can sometimes find themselves in the company of turtles, wobbegong sharks, and marine mammals such as dolphins and dugongs!

Tangalooma Wrecks is a Great Snorkel Dive. READ MORE
